HAVE YOU HEARD OF ME?

Cephalaspis, an extinct genus of jawless fish, swam the ancient seas during the Silurian period, approximately 423 to 416 million years ago. Characterized by its distinctive armored exterior, this prehistoric fish belonged to the class Agnatha, making it a jawless relative of modern lampreys and hagfish.

They had a flattened, disc-shaped body covered in bony plates, providing protection against potential predators. Its eyes were positioned on the upper surface, allowing for a strategic view of its surroundings, while the mouth, equipped with tooth-like structures, facilitated feeding on small aquatic organisms.

The fossilized remains of Cephalaspis contribute to our understanding of the ancient marine ecosystems, shedding light on the early stages of vertebrate evolution and the diverse adaptations that arose during this transformative period in Earth's history.
