❃ Plesiosaurus was a large, long-necked reptile that lived in the oceans during the Mesozoic Era. It had a long, snake-like body and four large flippers that it used to swim through the water. It was a carnivore, preying on smaller reptiles, fish, and squid.
❃ They were some of the first reptiles to return to the oceans after the mass extinction of the dinosaurs. They thrived in the oceans for over 150 million years, until they went extinct along with most of the other marine reptiles.
❃ Plesiosaurs were some of the largest reptiles that ever lived, with some species reaching lengths of over 30 meters (100 feet). The largest known plesiosaur is the Elasmosaurus, which could grow up to 13 meters (45 feet) long.
